The Principality of Sealand
Since 1967 this guy Roy Bates has occupied an abandoned WWII era sea fort in international waters. He refers to himself as Prince Roy Bates and claims that the fort is a sovereign state. Since he took control of the fort Prince Roy has had coins minted and stamps printed for use within the Principality of Sealand, issued official Sealand passports, published a Sealand constitution, resisted hostile takeovers (staged by other would-be princes), and he’s even fired shots at passing British Navy vessels.
